Occupational Safety Engineering - full-time, starting in winter sem., Occupational Safety Engineering
Qualification awarded
Back to topOn completion a student is awarded with an engineer degree. In Occupational Safety Engineering the emphasis has been put on the realisation of learning outcomes in the following fields: a student has a theoretical and practical knowledge of ensuring safe and healthy working conditions combined with technologies of production and transport processes, ecology, law, management, sociology, psychology and ergonomy; the student has systematized and theoretically well-founded knowledge in the field of: labour legislation, management within a company, social communication, physiology and health, ergonomy, toxicology and mechanics; the student knows technical requirements and solutions related to accident, disease and fire hazards in the work environment; has knowledge in the field of system management of an organisation, particularly in the context of environment, quality, safety and health management; can apply analytical, simulation and experimental methods to conduct work and safety duties in a company; can identify system and non-technical aspects (moral, economic, environmental and legal) to carry out occupational safety engineering tasks. The student is prepared to work in industry, he/she can: identify industrial hazards and present adequate protection measures; make references to labour legislation, work safety regulations in particular. The student can specify tasks characteristic for an occupational safety engineer as well as efficient ways of their implementation. He/she can design simple, technical and organisational solutions related to the needs of safe and healthy work environment by applying appropriate methods, techniques and tools. The student can identify and solve problems connected with a safety engineering profession; is aware of professional code of conduct, obeys professional ethics and respects a variety of views and cultures. The student realizes social significance of an occupational safety engineer; understands the necessity of publicising information and opinions about the importance of safe and healthy working conditions and ways of ensuring them; tries to do it in an understandable manner.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Back to topThe application procedure for the first-cycle studies is based on the secondary school graduation certificate or an equivalent foreign exam certified by relevant education authorities. Candidates are classified on the basis of their results from mathematics, physics or chemistry as well as a foreign language. The lack of a grade from a particular subject does not exclude a candidate from the application procedure, but it results in zero points for this subject. The detailed regulations of recruitment are defined in the relevant Senate Resolution which defines application regulations for the given academic year.
Educational and professional goals
Back to topAn engineering studies graduate will be able to design and monitor working conditions during technological processes with the use of chemicals and/or a great amount of energy, work organisation and workers' behaviour in order to prevent diseases, failures and occupational diseases. The graduate of this faculty will be equipped with the knowledge and skills which will enable him/her to: conduct security and hazard analysis, control if health and safety rules are obeyed, control working conditions and safety standards. He/she will be able to use acquired knowledge to manage, design and monitor both work environment and places of work in all, big or small industrial units, particularly in the textile industry.
Access to further studies
Back to topEngineering studies graduates are awarded with an engineer degree and may continue their education at the second-cycle Master studies. They are particularly prepared to study such technical faculties as Enviromental Engineering, Chemical and Process Engineering , and other related field studies.
Final examination
Back to topThe completion of studies takes place after a diploma exam. The final result is the sum of three components: an average of all grades achieved during studies (0.6), the grade for a diploma thesis (0.2) and a grade for the final exam (0.2). The final result in a diploma is expressed in words in accordance with the Rules of Study at Lodz University of Technology.
Examination and assessment regulations
Back to topThe list of all examinations and course assessement methods are included in each individual course descripton. The final grade consists of partial marks evaluating tutorials, lab exercises, projects, seminars and an exam in fractions established by a subject leader, and which are in accordance with the assumed learning outcomes. General assessment rules are defined in the Rules of Study at Lodz University of Technology.
