Graduate of the second stage studies in Biotechnology acquires academic title of MSc. Despite of the competences obtained during the first stage studies, graduate is also prepared for the designing of the biotechnological processes and conducting them for the manufacturing of products with required features for the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries as well as environmental protection and other. Graduate understand ecological, economic, social and legal aspects of Biotechnology. Knowledge and competence of self-planning and conducting research as well as ability for the application of obtained results makes graduate a good candidate for work at the research and diagnostic laboratories of the biotechnological industry and related branches. He/she may also work at the laboratories dealing with genetics, biosynthesis, biotransformation etc. of other University Units or Institutions of Polish Academy of Sciences. Graduate possess additional skills with respect to the safety of work with genetically engineered microorganisms, introduction of systems for innovation management in biotechnology, production management and marketing. He/ she may act upon social acceptance of biotechnology and bioproducts (i.e. GMO) and is able to solve technical and social problems. Graduate may work in the international environment and is able to invoke other areas of knowledge. He/she is well prepared for entering PhD studies.

Educational and professional goals

The aim of study programme in the field of Biotechnology is practical and theoretical preparation of graduates for designing and supervision of biotechnological processes. Biotechnology graduates possess theoretical knowledge required for the understanding of natural phenomena and ability of its use in accordance with the scope of studies. Graduate is theoretically and practically prepared to conduct and control of biotechnological processes as well as cooperation with representatives of widely recognized area of biotechnology.
The interdisciplinary knowledge and competence acquired during studies of Biotechnology makes graduate potential employee of the research laboratories in which it may be creatively applied for the selection and directed genetic modification of microorganisms, choosing cultivation methods for the biosynthesis and biotransformation as well as the isolation and purification of bio-products. Moreover, graduates of Biotechnology are prepared for the implementation of the quality assurance systems and safe work with genetically modified microorganisms which are applied in the biotechnological processes. Furthermore, graduates possess appropriate knowledge and skills for the production management and marketing. They may effectively use acquired language skills and computer techniques in their professional activity.
